Geography
As a country starting with R defined by Countryaah, Réunion is located 760 km east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. A volcanic chain runs diagonally across the entire island and divides it into two regions: the green and humid east side (Le Vent) and the dry, protected south and west side (Sous le Vent). Most of the population lives on the coast. Five smaller islands with a total surface of less than 50 square kilometers are uninhabited.

For the French overseas territories (Départements d’Outre-Mer) French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion as well as for the local authorities (Collectivités Territoriales) Mayotte and St. Pierre and Miquelon, the euro has been the official currency since January 1, 1999.
