TEST: Huawei Ascend Y300 is right now one of the best bid for a perfect start-smartphone on the Android platform.
For a little more than a year ago, exactly March 2012, Huawei in earnest on many people’s lips came in Denmark. It was specifically on the basis of phone Honor, which really gave Android dominate. A phone, where you really got “value for money”.
This is, as I said, only a little more than a year ago, and now it seems that this success can be repeated with Ascend Y300.
Huawei Ascend Y300 debuted on the Danish market for an unprecedented sharp price, however, exclusively at TDC. But with a price of as low as 99 dollars Inc. Mobile package 2T/3 GB so you get REALLY VERY phone for the money.
By the other vendors, which later has come on, the price is not seen as sharp as with TDC, but it can be purchased for down to just 999 dollars without subscription.
Generally on the phone
Ascend Y300 comes with a 4 inch display (800 x 480 pixels resolution), 1.0 GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel camera, 4 GB internal memory (However, only 0.98 GB available to users), possibility of microSD cards up to 32 GB, 512 MB of RAM and Android 4.1.1 from sales box.
To Ascend Y300 only comes with an internal memory, where 0.98 GB is available to the user is obviously a shame, but a known issue on smartphones, where the manufacturer uses a large part of memory from the beginning.
But however I have during the test period, which has been in a week’s time, had installed seven of my “must have” applications, as well as two games – and taken pictures with the camera. And I have still not been met by the message on the filled memory. Therefore, I do not think that it will be a huge problem for the segment on Ascend Y300.
The phone also supports microSD cards up to 32 GB of memory, if you require additional space.
The design is neutral
Ascend Y300 has a quite nicely and neutral design, as in no way does any harm, nor a design award-winner.
In addition to it, so the phone is incredibly good to hold in the hand – good physical size (124.5 x 63.8 x 11.2 mm) and a weight of 130 grams. It also has a dark side with a little pattern in which makes the phone lies well in the hand, and not too smooth to keep by.
User experience – certainly approved
I have in the testing period had good experiences with Huawei Ascend Y300, which both runs nicely and stably. Of course it can not catch up with the top models, but if you look at the price, then you can certainly not complain.
During the testing period, I have not experienced any problems at all, but if you are a beginner you should certainly not fear not being able to operate the phone, Huawei has made a smart “guide”, which tells you how to operate the various functions.
Keyboard – messages and continuing lack of dictionary
During my testing of Ascend Y300, there have been different opinions around the keyboard but I personally have got used to me, and the keyboard has worked well for my size hand.
So after the confidentiality and the learning process the first days time, so are the keyboard and I ended up being quite good friends.
Huawei has in this phone Danish keyboard and dictionary built-in, which in part has not been in force for a number of other, earlier, models from the manufacturer.
Ascend Y300 – best on specs
Huawei Ascend Y300 memories on the specifications a bit about Huawei Honor, as we have previously reported to the top marks. There are a few points where there are more “power” in the Honor, but the costs also continue to nearly double the recommended price on Ascend Y300.
Comparing it with the HTC Desire (C), which will soon have a year old, so there is also no doubt you really get more for your money, among other things, a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor against a 600 MHz single-core processor, a larger battery, bigger screen and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It is available in the same price range right now, cheapest price which is seen on our site is just now 879 dollars without subscription.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, as the battle stands against, so there is no doubt about the price – if it comes to specs and price. ACE 2 has smaller screen, only 800 MHz dual-core processor and a smaller battery, otherwise many characteristics similar to each other. However, the 256 MB RAM more than Ascend Y300. Galaxy Ace 2, however, is also more expensive, since the cheapest price right now is 1,530 dollars without subscription at our site.
Thus, I would say that Huawei Ascend Y300 is the best Android smartphone in the price level.
Emotion UI – super fatty action
Huawei Ascend Y300 comes with interface Emotion UI, on the Android operating system, which is created to provide greater ease of use, as well as give users the ability to personalize your phone further.
Emotion UI was presented at the IFA trade fair in august last year, but Huawei Ascend Y300, then, is the first phone that comes with it on the Danish market.
Huawei has made big changes in UI with Emotion Android system as we know it – for example, there is not the usual “program overview”. Instead appears programme-icons and widgets next to each other on the home screens (which can be chosen from a total of 9 home screens). The whole thing is so drawn out at the front.
You can choose between a number of themes, wallpapers and rollovers.
Personally, in my opinion, done a UI Emotion series of good things for the operating system, and it is incredibly user friendly, and very easy to navigate around in.
With Emotion UI, I also believe that Huawei really shows that they are serious when they say they want to conquer the European market.
Huawei Emotion UI makes to the Android platform gets a new expression and distinguishes itself from its competitors. It seems that Huawei has been further inland in Android than HTC and Samsung, for example, with their own user interfaces.
Personally I also holds much of the wide variety of fun transitions, as there is on this mobile.
Internet – good and functional
The overall functioning of the Internet as it should and I think certainly not, that it has taken a lot of patience to get the pages loaded, the wait has definitely been approved.
The Internet experience is not quite that of a top model, but for the price of the phone can be acquired for, then you can certainly not complain. It goes at a pace where you bother reading the day’s news on the cell phone, as well as check out Facebook etc.
Battery – good long battery life
Sitting in the Huawei Ascend Y300 1,730 mAh battery and without the use of the battery-saving feature, which is in the phone, I have no problems could have the phone in use in two days, where I have been online on mail, Facebook, sent text messages and phone calls in the same way as I used to.
It is not unusual to charge modern phones every night, but this has not therefore been necessary with Ascend Y300. The battery is therefore definitely approved.
Camera – easily and quickly
The camera in the Ascend Y300 is a 5 megapixels camera, which takes someone quite reputable images.
It is said that the camera you have with him is always the best. There is also no doubt that the camera in the Ascend Y300 is doing fine.
You can see some of the pictures we have taken in the testing period with a test copy of the Ascend Y300 in the gallery below.
Help center — guides you through everything
Huawei Ascend Y300 have from sales of an application installed, the box that says “Help center”. This guides the user through the most options in the phone.
Everything from an introduction, what the different keys does, tells what the icons in topgardinet means a little around the various themes, profiles and much more – and gives answers to the most frequently asked questions.
This handy “Help center” feature may have also been one of the reasons why the Huawei Ascend Y300 is chosen to be a telephone bet on in the TDC’s new campaign “getting started” with a smartphone.
Conclusion – the perfect start-mobile
Ascend Y300 has been my companion the last week or so, and there have not been problems with the phone is shut down unexpectedly, restart or been “frozen in the system”. It has the past week run flawlessly and without any problems.
The phone also delivers a surprisingly good result when you look at the price.
Also the comparisons we have created on the specifications and price with some of its competitors, is in favor of Huawei and the new Ascend Y300.
Huawei Ascend Y300 lands on 5 out of 6 stars, but if you buy it with the TDC so there is no doubt, so is Huawei Ascend Y300 a telephone to 6 out of 6 stars. It is clear the grade worthy, if the price is only 99 dollars.
